Third grade inventors had an opportunity to meet with Patrick Smith, the education curator from the Museum of Ct History ( 231 Capitol Avenue Hartford, CT 06106  860-757-6693). He brought examples of inventions started in Connecticut.  Some of the things we learned that had roots here were the hamburger ( Louie's Lunch in New Haven- he wanted to find a portable lunch for working people and the information that stayed with the class is that you can not have ketchup or mustard on your hamburger there, they will only serve it the way they served it 100 years ago), the turtle submarine in Old Saybrook by David Bushnell in 1775, the helicopter from Igor Sikorsky, Frisbee and French Fry maker.  You can read his Connecticut Invents blog at @ www.ctinventor.wordpress.com  and a trip to the museum is free.
